Policy Initiatives

The Chamber and its Government Relations Team are frequently at the forefront of efforts to promote sound, pro-business public policy. For information about the Chamber's latest initiatives, follow on the links below:

Automotive Jobs Action Coalition (AJAC)

Automotive employment is critical to the US economy. Every state in the nation employs workers in the automotive industry. The Government Relations Team formed AJAC to protect automotive jobs in the US and raise awareness among policymakers about the costs to business associated with extreme increases in Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) Standards. Business for Economic Security, Trade, & Tourism (BESTT)

The Detroit Regional Chamber has an ongoing commitment to ease travel between the Detroit - Windsor border, and continues to work to address issues raised by the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI). The Detroit Regional Chamber plays a key leadership role as part of an international coalition called Business for Economic Security, Trade & Tourism (BESTT) to advocate for changes in the proposed policy. Currently, the policy would require anyone who crosses into the U.S. to have a passport or similar document. The business community is concerned that this policy will have negative consequences for our local economy, tourism and cross-border trade. Northern Border for Economic Security & Trade (NBEST)

Recognizing the critical importance to Southeast Michigan to address both national and economic security issues at the border, the Detroit Regional Chamber formed the Northern Border for Economic Security and Trade (NBEST) within days of September 11th. The mission of NBEST is to provide a strong, unified voice advocating for Michigan/Ontario border improvements that ensure the safe, seamless and efficient flow of people and goods between two great trading partners. NBEST is a bi-national coalition of government, public and private sector firms with the shared goal to make our border more efficient and secure.
