Fusion was launched in 2007 by the Detroit Regional Chamber as a talent retention initiative targeted to young professionals. Fusion is gives young professionals unique opportunities to network, engage with community leaders and develop as professionals. Fusion builds relationships, increases political and philanthropic activity and cultivates future leaders, professionals and entrepreneurs. US Census Bureau reported 22,000 young adults left Michigan between 2000 and 2005. Our region is in the top five "Greatest Brain Draining" regions in the United States, because our young talent is leaving metro Detroit at a dramatic rate. As a result, southeast Michigan can no longer compete with new metropolitan cities that are growing with young talent and new business. Connecting new talent with networking opportunities and professional development is a key factor in helping attract qualified young professionals and new business. Businesses and young adults will see the region as a place that fits their lifestyles, needs, and wants, which in turn boosts the image and economy of the region.
